Obituary of John J. Kolibas

John J. Kolibas, 85, of West Long Branch, passed away Wednesday at Care One Nursing Home, Holmdel Twp. Mr. Kolibas, retired as the Superintendent and Principal of Shore Regional High School. He had taught Chemistry and Physics for many years before moving to the school's administration. Prior to that he had taught in Long Branch and Franklin Township, where he also coached Football, He was a football official for New Jersey High School Football. He was a member of the West Long Branch Borough Council and had served for many years as the Councils Police Chairman. He was a member of Borough Chemical and Truck Co. # 1 , West Long Branch Fire Department. Mr. Kolibas was an active Communicant of St. Jerome's RC Church, West Long Branch, where he served as a Trustee and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was the President of the John Caliendo Shore Winter Golf League, which played tournaments throughout New Jersey. He was a member of the Old Orchard Country Club and the West Long Branch Leisure Club and Trade Winds Beach Club. He and his wife Jean enjoyed many wonderful times together in Atlantic City. Mr. Kolibas was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. A graduate of Carteret High School, he attended Temple University. Mr. Kolibas left Temple to serve his Country in 1943 when he joined the U.S. Navy. He served three years, 16 months of which were in the Pacific Theatre. He returned and attended Vanderbilt University on the Navy V-12 program, and in the fall of 1946, he returned to Temple, where he was graduated. He later earned his Masters in Education from Temple University. He played football at both Vanderbilt and Temple. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Temple University's Owl Club. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Mary and Michael Kolibas. Surviving is his loving wife of 59 years, Jean Henderson Kolibas; sister and brother-in-law, Anisia & Steve Ceykovsky, Edison; two nieces and a nephew. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 1st , 9:30 AM at St. Jerome's RC Church, Wall Street, West Long Branch. Entombment will follow in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge, NJ. There will be no visiting hours.
