Obituary of Elizabeth T. Scanlon

Elizabeth T. Scanlon, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. She was born in the Bronx, N.Y. on May 12, 1926 to the late Patrick and Elizabeth (nee Smith) O’Connor. A graduate of St. Barnabas High School in the Bronx, Elizabeth moved to New Jersey after marrying and lived for many years in Bergen County. She moved to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1989, calling her years there “a life in paradise” because of the climate and weather. 

Elizabeth returned to New Jersey in 2004 to be closer to her family, her greatest joy. Her other favorite pastimes included listening to the opera and watching TCM, singling out her favorite movies. She resided in the community of Shady Oaks, located in Red Bank, since 2004.

Elizabeth, known to her family and friends as Betty, is predeceased by her husband, Arthur Scanlon, who passed away in 1984. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, Dr. John Saporito of Rumson; her son, Lawrence Scanlon of Ridgefield N.J., and three grandchildren, Christopher Saporito, Matthew Saporito and William Scanlon – as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM in Holy Cross R.C. Church, 30 Ward Avenue, Rumson N.J. A private burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside N.Y.
