So sorry to hear this. He was one of my favorites. Brilliant, kind and funny. He went out of his way to help me understand chemistry concepts I could not grasp. I didn't appreciate the subject matter at the time, but thanks to Mr. Miller, I now as an adult have a tremendous respect and fascination for it. He will be missed by all who knew him. My deepest condolences to his family.

To the Miller family,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of Mr Miller. He was one of the best teachers I ever had. His love of science and math was so very evident in his teaching.I loved his Earth Science class! He inspired me to persue at first a teaching career (HS math) and that evolved to nursing and eventually engineering. He made it FUN to learn. We all loved seeing him at our class reunions and he will be sorely missed. Sincerly Karen deSante Wright SRHS class of 70

Mr. Miller was my homeroom teacher B-1 for my 4 years at Shore. I remember how excited he was to tell us when his daughter was born. He had the gift of being an educator who could connect with his students on several levels. His science lessons were not just for those who loved the subject. I am sorry for your loss and hope that some of the memories people are sharing will help you realize how special a man he was to many folks.

The Miller family, so sorry for your loss. I am one of the thousands of students that passed through Mr Miller’s hs chemistry class. Thinking of my HS experience, he stands out as one of my more memorable educators. He made chemistry comprehensible, interesting, and enjoyable. He was also kind, open to his students, a good listener and above all fair.
As I later life became a pharmacist with one course short of a double major with chemistry, I was a student he inspired. I thank him

I had Mr. Miller for Biology at Shore Regional in the late 60s. He made it interesting to someone who really isn't science oriented. He knew my family vacationed in Maine and I was also headed in that direction for college. I'll always remember what he wrote in my yearbook - Best of luck in the Maine woods. He told me he had studied at Bowdoin College in Brunswick and appreciated the beauty of the state.
Mr. Miller really was meant to be a teacher with the way he connected to his students. I am so fortunate to have been in his classroom. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Aside from being my sister Barbara Cavanagh's neighbor I knew Ed through Shore Regional when I was a board member. Although we didn't always see eye to eye I knew he was a knowledgeable educator and a gentleman and I always respected his opinions. May he rest in peace and his memory at Shore live on.

That's a real pity. I’m so sad to hear this. Ed was such a fine gentleman and a class act. An accomplished educator who cared deeply about kids and ideas. He was a guy who brought to our high school a rare fine blend of academic and athletic talents. He made SRHS a better pace the moment he walked through the front door. Condolences to the Miller family. Rest assured that he made a difference in a great many student’s lives.

Mr. Miller was my chemistry teacher in 81-82. He took a student who was scared to death of science and taught her to work hard, overcome her fear, and embrace learning. His teaching was integral to passing college chemistry. I have always had the deepest respect for his passion and drive that he was able to convey to each of his students. My condolences to his family.

Mr. Miller was one of the good guys. I didn't have him for science, but we knew each other through other teachers. After graduating in 1970, Shore hired me and 2 others to work for the school that summer. We encountered some undue negative feedback from the administration regarding our work and Mr. Miller stood up for us against the administration. They never bothered us again. He didn't have to do that. I'll always remember him for that and for his kindness to all the students.

Mrs. Miller and family: I am one of the many students Mr. Miller taught. Ironically, I found his Chemistry class so hard I was certain I would take no more science classes--only to then major in Biology and spend a career in nonprofit environmental protection and advocacy. I will always remember Mr. Miller as gentle, caring, and genuine. When my older brother was injured in a soccer game, he offered to take me to the hospital. When I saw him at a reunion one year, and told him of my environmental work, he commented that he was glad to see I had chosen the side of "the good guys." I am grateful for his not only being a truly fine teacher, but for his natural kindness. He was a model for what it is like to be a decent human being. May the many lives he touched and shaped serve to help soften the grief of your loss. Respectfully, Roy Hoagland

Very sorry to hear about Mr. Miller's passing. I took Chemistry with him in 1974-75. I remember that he made sure that we learned how to use a slide rule in the first half of the year before we were able to use the handheld held calculators that were all the rage at that time. Chemistry was not really my forte (I was a English/History student) but as a college prep kid, I had to enter the rather intimidating and yet very well organized world of Mr. Miller's classroom. He was very smart and very kind. I am afraid I gave the seasoned Marine a bit of a scare when I almost burned the lab down when I set some rubber tubing on fire with a bunsen burner. Calm and in control, he took care of the situation in a flash and all was saved. Condolences to his family. He was a Good Man.
